Naples Shootout: Baruch Falls to #20 Amherst

The Baruch College Bearcats lost 89-63 to the 20th-ranked Mammoths of Amherst College on Sunday afternoon at the Naples Shootout in Naples, Florida.

The Mammoths from the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) shot 63 percent (20-for-32) in the first 20 minutes and built up a 50-30 halftime advantage. 

The Bearcats battled and managed to get as close as 57-41 on a jumper by Benjamin Boateng with under 16 minutes left in the second half, but the Mammoths behind four players in double-figure scoring pulled away for the win.

Adnan Bajrami shot 8-of-9 from the field to lead the Bearcats with 19 points and three steals in the neutral-site contest at the Community School of Naples. Emil Purisic came off the bench to score 11 points.

Garrett Day led Amherst with 20 points.

The Bearcats will quickly resume action at the Naples Shootout on Monday morning at 10:30 a.m. against Hamline College from St. Paul, Minnesota.
