Sophomore guard Anders Nelson had 14 points and No. 5-ranked St. Thomas Men's Basketball used two mid-game runs to pull away from visiting Macalester, 64-35, in MIAC play Wednesday night at Schoenecker Arena.
The Toms closed the first half on a 10-1 run to take a 30-21 lead at the break. They used a 15-0 run early in the second half to push the lead to 48-23.
St. Thomas (6-1 overall, 2-0 MIAC) ran its win streak to five. The Purple had a down shooting night from behind the arc, making just 5-of-22 treys, but had only nine turnovers and used its depth to wear down the Scots (4-4, 1-2).
Senior Elijah Hannah added 10 points, freshman Will Engels chipped in 10 points, and senior Tommy Anderson scored nine.
Senior Jackson Henningfield had 10 points, eight boards and three blocks and now has 998 career points for Macalester.
