SEGUIN, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's basketball team opened up a double-digit lead midway through the second half and then held on down the stretch for a 62-57 victory over Texas Lutheran Wednesday night in Seguin. The Cru improves to 6-1 on the season with the victory. The loss drops the Bulldogs to 3-3 on the year.
UMHB led by as many as five points in a first half that featured six lead changes and the Cru was up 32-28 at halftime. UMHB opened the second half with a 16-5 run to grab a 15-point lead at 48-33 with 12:58 left to play. TLU was able to chip away and cut the lead to three points twice in the late going. It was 60-57 after Jamir Mason's lay-in with ten second to go. Logan Hicks would bury two clutch free-throws on the other end just one second later. The Bulldogs missed a three-pointer in the final seconds as the Cru held on to win.
Sam Moore led UMHB with 21 points on 4-8 shooting from three-point range and he added eight rebounds. Casey Armour had 13 points and a game-high nine rebounds. Devyn Brewton also reached double figures with 11 points. The Cru shot 52 percent from the field and hit 7-17 from three-point range. UMHB also out rebounded the Bulldogs 39-26 on the night.
Caleb Lister topped TLU with 15 points and seven rebounds. Sebastian Andrade added 11 points. The Bulldogs shot 35 percent from the field and went just 6-31 from beyond the arc.
The Cru will return to action with a home exhibition game next week. UMHB will host the University of St. Thomas for a 5:30 pm start next Thursday.
