Men’s Basketball Holds Off Wasps in Midweek Tune Up

SEWANEE, Tenn. - The Sewanee men's basketball team used 51 rebounds and 36 points in the paint to power its way to a 69-62 win over the Wasps of Emory & Henry College on Tuesday evening from Juhan Gymnasium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-Despite the struggles from the field from both teams in the contest, the Tigers scored the first eight points of the game, six by Adrian Thomas, before the Wasps struck for points 6:47 into the contest.

-Trailing 15-4 at the 10:44 mark in the first half, Emory & Henry drained two straight shots from beyond the arc to cut the deficit to 15-10 with over nine minutes left in the half.

-Sewanee was able to get the lead back to double digits, as the hosts lead, 35-19, at the break.

-In the first 20 minutes, the Tigers out-rebounded the Wasps, 26-13 and limited the visitors to 22.2% (6-of-27) from the field.

-Emory & Henry was able to cut the deficit from as high as 20 points with 15:23 left in the game to a two-possession game with 17 seconds left, but Sewanee held off the visitors to earn its third straight win.

-The Tigers held the visitors to 34.9% from the field and 62 points. Prior to Tuesday's contest, the Wasps averaged 84.6 points per game.

SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS
-Joey Knox led the Tigers with 17 points and eight rebounds each, while Adrian Thomas scored 14 points on 7-of-13 shooting with eight boards.

-Ryan Starr scored 11 points, corralled five boards, and attributed four dimes.

-Michael Barry posted a 10-point performance and added seven boards and four steals.

-Off the bench, Jonny Crumly played 20 minutes and recorded a team-high nine rebounds and added seven points.

-In the win, the Tigers controlled the boards, posting 51 rebounds in 40 minutes of action. The total rebounds are the sixth-most in the conference in 2019-20.

EMORY & HENRY KEY STATISTICS
-Robert Holliday, Jr. led the Wasps with 22 points and 12 rebounds, while Colin Molden added 10 boards.

UP NEXT
The Tigers will next open Southern Athletic Association (SAA) play on Saturday inside Juhan Gymnasium against Centre College. Tip off is scheduled for 3 p.m., following the women's game.
