Sewanee Men’s Basketball Hands Piedmont First Loss of Season

SEWANEE, Tenn. - The Sewanee men's basketball team recorded a 74-58 victory over the Lions of Piedmont in a pre-Thanksgiving contest on Tuesday night inside Juhan Gymnasium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-After Sewanee started the game on a 5-0 run, the Lions responded by evening the game up thanks to a Jordan Foote layup.

-The contest would remain tight until the 12:42 mark in the opening half. Trailing 9-8, Sean McDonough started a streak of four straight triples made. After Mackie Garwood drained back-to-back shots from beyond the arc and a Michael Barry 3-pointer, the Tigers led, 20-9.

-Piedmont responded with a 17-2 run of their own to cut the deficit to 26-22 with less than three minutes in the period. However, the Tigers came out strong finishing the half with a 6-0 run to bring the lead back to double-digits, 32-22, at the break.

-The visitors started the second half with an 8-0 run, but that would be as close as they would get to the lead. Sewanee pulled away with at the 14-minute mark, as the Tigers pushed the lead to 53-39 at the under-12 media timeout.

SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS
-Michael Barry kept the bank open after hours on Tuesday night with career-highs in 3-pointers made with seven and points with 22. The senior dropped 7-of-9 from beyond the arc.

-Joey Knox added 21 points thanks to a 7-of-15 performance from the field and added six dimes.

-Adrian Thomas posted 11 points, seven boards and two steals and assists each.

-Ryan Starr only had three field goal attempts on the night, but the sophomore had eight assists, a career-high, and added four rebounds and thefts each.

PIEDMONT KEY STATISTICS
-Justin Quick led the Lions with 11 points, while Jordan Foote missed a double-double with 10 rebounds and nine points.

UP NEXT
Following the Thanksgiving break, the Tigers return to the hardwood on Tuesday, Dec. 2 with a non-conference contest against Emory & Henry. Tip is slated for 5:30 p.m. inside Juhan Gymnasium.
