BEREA, Ohio — Five Pioneers scored in double figures as the No. 10 ranked Marietta College men's basketball team opened Ohio Athletic Conference play with an 86-76 win at Baldwin Wallace Tuesday (Nov. 26) evening.

"Lukas got us off to a great start. We were able to jump on them early but unfortunately, foul trouble really got us into a funk. The second part of the first half was really a struggle for us," Marietta head coach Jon VanderWal said. "However, I'm really proud of how our guys handled the adversity in the game and stayed tough all the way to the end. It was your typical OAC slugfest and I'm encouraged our guys were able to grind it out on the road."

Marietta is off to a 4-0 start for the seventh straight season. The Yellow Jackets fall to 2-3 overall and 0-1 in the OAC.

Pioneer point guard Lukas Isaly made his first four three-point attempts to ignite an early 16-0 run as Marietta raced out to an 18-5 lead five minutes into the game. Isaly finished with 21 points to lead all scorers.

Baldwin Wallace answered with nine straight points to get back into the game. A pair of free throws from Luke Schaefer with 4:55 left in the first half knotted the game, 26-26. A three-pointer from Matt Dimitrijevs 30 seconds later gave BW the lead, 29-26, its first since the opening moments of the game.

Tim Kreeger made one of two free throws with five seconds left in the half to send the game into halftime tied, 32-32.

The teams traded small leads through the first 13 minutes of the second half with neither leading by more than five points. Alex Nahra got an offensive rebound and layup to give BW a 64-63 lead. It would be the Yellow Jackets last lead of the night.

Caleb Hoyng answered with a three-pointer that triggered an 11-0 Marietta run. Kreeger capped the run with a jumper at the 4:15 mark to give the Pioneers a 10-point lead, 74-64.

The Yellow Jackets stayed hot from behind the arc and hit a pair of triples to keep within striking distance of the Pioneers. But a steal and layup from Mason Lydic pushed the margin back to nine, 81-72, with 51 seconds left on the clock. Marietta sealed the win at the free throw line in the final seconds.

Lydic notched a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Jason Ellis scored 18 points, while Hoyng added 13 and Kreeger finished with 10 points.

Tyler Colombo led Baldwin Wallace with 16 points. Schaefer and Dimitrijevs each scored 15 points and Michael Quiring chipped in with 10 points. Drew Sova pulled down 10 rebounds for the Yellow Jackets.

Marietta returns home to host Otterbein University on Wednesday (Dec. 4). Tip-off in Ban Johnson Arena is set for 7 p.m.
