BIDDEFORD, Maine -- The University of New England men's basketball squad closed with a 27-11 run to win the 2019 Hampton Inn Jim Beaudry Classic, 72-58, over New York University on Sunday afternoon (Nov. 17) at the Harold Alfond Forum.

The Nor'easters have now claimed two out of the nine editions of the event, which is named for the former coach and administrator at St. Francis College and one of the first members of UNE's Hall of Fame. The initial victory came during the 2008-09 season. [Tournament History]

Most Valuable Player Alex Kravchuk paced the hosts 14 points, and All-Tournament Team member Avery DeBrito added 13 points, five assists, and three steals. Jackson McCoy supported with 12 points, and secured eight rebounds to help the Nor'easters post a 37-28 edge on the glass. Jordan Bagshaw and Siddiq Canty each tossed in nine points.

UNE (3-1) shot nearly 47 percent in the contest (22-for-47), while limiting the Violets to just 30 percent (18-of-60). The Nor'easters also out-scored NYU by nine at the line, knocking down 20-of-25 in the match.

New York University (1-3) received a game-high 16 points out of Ethan Feldman, who hit five from behind the arc. Miles Somerville tallied 13 points and got an All-Tournament nod, as did Nick Macarchuk, who finished with six points, eight boards, and three steals.

The Nor'easters led most of the way, and used an 11-0 spurt in the latter stages of the 1st half to establish their largest cushion of the day (39-24). However, the Violets scored 10 in-a-row to head into the locker room only down five (39-34), and Feldman recorded the first four of the 2nd to extend the run even further.

A basket at the 11:26 mark briefly shifted NYU in front, 47-45, before Bagshaw (5) and UNE rattled off nine straight to regain control. The spread was four (57-53) until a pair of McCoy free throws and two triples by Kravchuk pushed the gap into double digits for good (65-53) with 2:31 remaining.

Joining Kravchuk, DeBrito, Somerville, and Macarchuk with All-Tournament status from the consolation game was Hasani Williams of Mitchell College and Marc Trinidad of Regis College. Mitchell overcame an early 14-point deficit to defeat Regis by a margin of 95-79 [Statistics].
