Whitewater, Wis., Nov. 15, 2019 – A 20-0 run from the end of the first half into the second lifted the No. 7 ranked Washington University in St. Louis men's basketball team to a 90-86 win at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Friday in Whitewater, Wis.

Sophomore Justin Hardy led the Bears with 25 points and a career-high nine rebounds, while junior Jack Nolan had 20 of his 24 points in the second half. Freshman Spencer Boehm was magnificent off the bench with a career-high 10 points on 5-of-6 shooting.

WashU shot 51.7 percent (31-60) from the field in the win and hit 19-of-26 from the foul line.

A bucket by Boehm and a three-pointer by senior Matt Nester tied the game at 12-12 early on, and then a corner three by junior Payden Webb gave the Bears a 19-18 lead. Whitewater went on a 10-0 run late to take a double-figure lead at 31-21.

Trailing by 15 (41-26) with 2:20 to play before half, WashU went on a 7-0 run to trim the advantage to 41-33. Hardy hit a three-pointer with 47 seconds left to cap the run.

The Bears shot just 39.3 percent (11-28) from the field in the opening half, while UW-Whitewater connected on 53.1 percent (17-32). The Warhawks scored 28 of 41 points in the point. Hardy led the Bears with seven points, while Boehm added six.

Nolan hit back-to-back threes to get the lead down to two (41-39), and then a three-point play by Hardy made it 44-41. Nester's three pushed the advantage to 54-45, and then a dunk by Hardy made it 59-50.

Whitewater head coach Pat Miller was called for a technical foul with his team trailing by seven (67-60), and the Bears responded with four-straight points to make it 71-60.

WashU led by 13 (84-71) after a bucket by Boehm, but the Warhawks' chipped away to get the lead down to two with 19 seconds left after a 13-2 run. Senior DeVaughn Rucker drained two free-throws with 6.3 seconds left to seal the victory.

Bailey Kaley led Whitewater with 25 points on 10-of-27 shooting from the field, while Equan Ards had 24 points and eight boards. The Warhawks shot 54.7 percent (35-64) from the field but hit just 11-of-17 from the foul line.

WashU wraps up the two-game road trip at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville (2-0) on Saturday at 7 p.m.

BEAR NOTEBOOK: WashU has won both all-time meetings, and they met for the first time since 2009 … Hardy (24.0) and Nolan (23.5) are both averaging over 20 points per game.
