Sewanee Men’s Basketball Ends Centre’s Win Streak with 77-67 Triumph on Senior Day

SEWANEE, Tenn. - The Sewanee men's basketball team capped off a 19-win regular season with a 77-67 victory over the Colonels of Centre College Saturday afternoon inside Juhan Gymnasium for Senior Day and the regular season finale.

CLASS OF 2019!
Prior to tip, the men's basketball team honored its five seniors: Will Braden, Hunter Buescher, Cam Caldwell, David Johnson and Matt Lee.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-Sewanee attempted to pull away from the 2019 SAA Regular Season Champions early in teh contest. With 12 minutes remaining, the Tigers made it a 17-9 contest. The Colonels got the contest back to a two-point deficit, 27-25.

-Sewanee held off the late first half rally with a 34-31 lead at the break.

-In the second half, the Tigers were able to get the lead to double digits, but the Colonels made it a one-point affair, 54-53 with 9:44 left in regulation.

-The Tigers did not relinquish the lead, as they went on a 12-3 run in about a six-minute span to seal the victory.

SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS
-Four Sewanee players were in double figures, led by Cam Caldwell with a game-high 19 points. The senior added six rebounds, four assists and blocks each and three steals.

-Luke Smith scored 18 points, while Michael Barry dropped 14 points off the bench.

-Jordan Warlick scored 11 and added seven boards.

CENTRE KEY STATISTICS
-Tucker Sine led the Colonels with 13 points.

UP NEXT
Sewanee will now turn its attention to the 2019 SAA Championships, beginning Feb. 22 at Centre College in Danville, Ky., who won the regular season and earned the right to host.
