CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy men's basketball fell to Husson University 72-58, on Tuesday night in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action inside of Smith Gymnasium. Despite the loss, the Mariners have secured a spot in the NAC Tournament for the first time since 2010-2011.

How it Happened: Maine Maritime jumped out to a 5-0 lead and took their biggest lead of the game at 13:00 after six-unanswered points from Riley Jorgenson (Vienna, Va.) put the Mariners up 13-4.

The Eagles responded with nine-unanswered points to tie the game at 13-13, and the two teams battled back-and-forth before Husson took a narrow 35-31 lead into halftime.

The Mariners used an 8-2 run to take a 39-37 lead early in the second half but Husson orchestrated an 11-0 point run to take a 64-52 lead with 4:47 and hung on for the victory.

Inside the Numbers: Richardson led the Mariners with a game-high 22 points, seven rebounds, six assists, and two steals.

Both Jorgenson and Kimani Anderson (Houston, Texas) tallied 13 points, Jorgenson added three rebounds and two steals, while Anderson contributed three rebounds and one steal.

DJ Bussey led the Eagles with 14 points, three assists, a rebound and a steal, Justice Kendall added 13 points, four steals, three rebounds and an assist and Kyanti Blyden tallied 12 points, five rebounds and four steals.

The Mariners shot 44.7 percent from the floor, while the Eagles shot 45.0 percent and held a 34-27 advantage in rebounds.

Up Next: The Mariners conclude the regular season at 11-13 overall, the team's best record since going 12-12 in 2006-2007, including a 7-7 record in conference play. The Eagles wrap up regular season play at 15-10 and 11-3 in the NAC. Both teams now await playoff seedings, which will be announced tomorrow night at the conclusion of all conference regular season contests. The NAC Quarterfinals will begin on Saturday, February 16.
