Powell’s Career-Day Spoiled in Overtime

KEUKA PARK, N.Y. — Senior Trevor Powell (Manassas, Va. / Osbourn) scored a career-high 28 points, including the 1,000th of his career, but the Keuka College Men's Basketball team would fall at home to Gallaudet University 91-84 in overtime.

Powell also tied teammate James Barnes (Rochester, N.Y. / University Prep) for the team lead with 14 rebounds as he earned his tenth double-double of the season. Barnes tied his career-high with 20 points for Keuka college (9-11, 6-7 NEAC). David Oliveras (Great Mills, Md. / Great Mills) added 13 points in the loss.

Gallaudet University 91 at Keuka College 84 – OT

The Bison scored the first five points of the game, but Sam Brown (Syracuse, N.Y. / West Genesee) hit his first two three-points as the game was tied 8-8 early on. The Wolves would take the lead over Gallaudet and hold it for the rest of the first half. Trevor Powell made a pair of free throws with 5:29 left in the first half to score his 1,000th career point and give the Wolves a 33-27 lead. Overall, Keuka College would shoot 50% from the floor and from three in the first half and led the Bison 42-33 at the break.

Keuka College scored the first six points of the second half to push their lead to a game-high 15 points with 16:22 left to play. The Bison would start to cut back into the Keuka College lead. Eight straight for Gallaudet made cut the lead to seven with just under 13 minutes left to play. Gallaudet continued to attack from deep. In total, Gallaudet hit seven threes in the second half and held the Wolves without a triple. Keuka College would hold onto the lead in the final minute of a one-possession game. The Wolves went 1-2 from the free throw line with 13 seconds left to make it a 72-70 game. However, Gallaudet took the rebound off the missed free throw and drove down the court for the game-tying layup with six second left. Keuka College put a three up to tie but it went wide as the game went to overtime.

David Oliveras hit a three to open overtime but Gallaudet answered with a triple of their own. It is one of three three-pointers for the Bison in the overtime period as they were perfect from deep. Gallaudet would pull away late on Saturday as they outscored the Wolves 19-12 in overtime to defeat Keuka 91-84.
