Farmington Fends Off Mariners

CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy men's basketball fell to UMaine-Farmington 78-69, on Friday night in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action inside of Smith Gymnasium.

How it Happened: The Beavers took an early 12-4 lead but the Mariners battled back, putting together a 13-2 run to close Farmington's lead to two (32-30) with 2:07 to play. Adam Richardson (Bradley, Maine) hit a pair from the line and Andrew Liebert (Plano, Texas) made a layup in the final seconds of the half to send the Mariners into the half with a 34-33 lead. 

Liebert made another layup to open up the second half and Riley Jorgenson (Vienna, Va.) sank a three to give the Mariners a 39-33 lead at 18:37. Maine Maritime took their biggest lead of the night, 49-40, following a layup from Kimani Anderson (Houston, Texas) at 14:24 but the Beavers used a 10-point run to take a 50-49 lead with 11:22 to play.

Jorgenson made two from the line to tie the game at 55-55 at 9:13 and Nicholas DePatsy (Waldoboro, Maine) hit a three to deadlock it at 62-62 at 6:07 but the Beavers began to pull away and built a double-digit lead with 2:29 to go and hung on for the victory.

Inside the Numbers: Jorgenson led the Mariners with 19 points, six rebounds, two assists and a steal.

DePatsy added 16 points, six rebounds, four assists and a block, Richardson contributed 13 points, five assists, four rebounds, and a steal, and Anderson rounded out the Mariners in double-digits with 11 points, two rebounds, two blocks and an assist. 

Milani Hicks led the Beavers with a game-high 26 points, eight rebounds, four steals, an assist and a block. Bill Ruby chipped in with 16 points, nine rebounds, four steals and an assist and both Riley Robinson and Issac Witham added 10 points. 

Maine Maritime shot 51.0 percent from the floor, while the Beavers shot 40.9 percent. The Beavers held a 39-29 advantage in rebounds. 

Up Next: The Mariners fall to 11-11 on the season and 7-5 in the conference, while the Beavers improve to 16-7 overall and 11-1 in the NAC. Maine Maritime Academy returns to action tomorrow at 1:00 pm, at Thomas College.
