DePauw Finishes Strong for Win at Allegheny

Meadville, Pa. - DePauw and host Allegheny were locked up in a tight battle before the Tigers put together a 19-5 run to pull away for an 84-69 victory over the Gators. The Tigers moved to 14-7 overall and 8-6 in the NCAC, while the Gators dropped to 8-12 overall and 4-10 in conference play.

DePauw got out to a quick start as Nick Felke hit two 3-pointers and a layup to give the Tigers an 8-0 lead. Allegheny briefly held a 2-point lead, but DePauw took a 35-32 lead into the halftime.

The hosts were within three at 61-58 with seven minutes left before Matt Mahlke hit a three and Cole Jenkins followed with a layup. The Gators hit a pair of free throws, but DePauw responded with a layup by Caymn Lutz and back-to-back buckets from Felke to make it 72-60 with 3:40 left. Nolan Ginther's three-point play with 1:38 remaining gave the Tigers a 77-63 lead and DePauw hit 7 of 8 free throws down the stretch to seal the win.

Felke matched a career high with 20 points, while Ginther followed with 14. Jenkins, Lutz and Aaron Shank each added 11. Andrew Kus hauled down eight rebounds.

Jordan Rawls paced Allegheny with 21 points with Brian Roberts added 16. Caden Hinckley recorded a double-double of 13 points and 11 rebounds.

DePauw connected on 53.2 percent from the floor including 60 percent in the second half, while the Gators hit 37.8 percent. The Tigers knocked in 8 of 23 3-points with Allegheny finishing 2 of 21 from beyond the arc.

Allegheny had a narrow 40-38 edge on the boards and each team committed nine turnovers.

DePauw hosts Wabash at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, February 6.
