GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The Gettysburg College men's basketball team came up on the short end of a 75-53 decision against a hot-shooting Centennial Conference opponent Haverford College Saturday evening.
 
Sophomore Avery Close (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville) led the Bullets (4-15, 3-9 CC) with 14 points and six rebounds. Senior Alec Warren (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) tallied eight points, while sophomore Ewan Lancaster (Stewarton, Scotland/The Hun School of Princeton) added seven points.
 
Haverford (8-11, 4-8 CC) shot 50.8 percent (30-of-59) from the field, including 41.7 percent (10-for-24) from 3-point range. The second leading scorer in the conference, Joe Scibelli, paced the Fords with 15 points on 7-of-14 shooting overall. Jonathan Lang and Jack Cork came off the bench to produce 12 and 10 points, respectively.
 
The two teams battled it out during the first 15 minutes of the opening half as three ties and two lead changes occurred. A layup by Lancaster with 13:58 on the clock surged an 8-3 run for the Bullets to pull ahead 15-12 with 9:59 showing.
 
After that, the Bullets cooled down offensively, while the Fords heated up as they triggered a 20-4 run, with Lang netting eight points, to close the half ahead 32-19. Haverford's bench tallied 21 of the 32 first-half points.
 
A lay-in from Close 1:30 into the second half pulled the Bullets to within 11. However, that's when Haverford embarked on a 16-4 run, which included three 3-pointers, as its lead ballooned to 22 (47-25) following a jumper from Jack Cork with 13:32 remaining.
 
The visitors outstanding 61.5 percent shooting in the second half kept the Bullets from getting any closer than 17 points the rest of the way.
 
Gettysburg went 20-of-55 (36.4 percent) from the floor and hit 9-of-13 (69.2 percent) from the charity stripe. Haverford out-rebounded Gettysburg 39-30.
 
Gettysburg travels to Franklin & Marshall College on Wednesday, Jan. 30. Game time is slated for 7 p.m.
