Gwynedd Mercy Takes Down Cabrini

RADNOR, PA. -- The Gwynedd Mercy Men's Basketball team stayed a top of the Atlantic East Conference with an 88-73 victory at Cabrini University on Saturday afternoon to complete the season sweep of the Cavaliers.

Junior Jeff Seigafuse scored a career-high 29 points on 11-of-17 shooting while connecting on a personal-best six three-pointers (6-of-8). Clayton Wolfe added a double-double, totaling 21 points and 12 rebounds for his third in his last four games. Rich Dunham rounded out the scoring with 11. 

For the game the Griffins shot 51.6% (33-64) from the floor and made 12 three pointers, the third time this year with 10+ treys. GMercyU would hold the lead for over thirty five minutes of the contest.

The teams traded six lead changes in the opening moments of the game. A Shane Ford three-pointer gave Gwynedd the lead for good at 12-10 with just under fourteen minutes remaining in the half. 

A Seigafuse triple sparked an 8-0 run capped by a Courtney Cubbage layup to give Gwynedd their largest lead of the half nine (22-13) with 8:38 to go. Cabrini would cut back into the lead, but the Griffins responded with shots from downtown from Wolfe and Jaylen Henry to lead, 30-25.  A Jordan Perkins put back and Wolfe jumper stretched the lead to a 37-33 Gwynedd advantage.

Seigafuse kept the hot hand, scoring a pair of buckets to open the second stanza.  Cabrini would climb back to tie the game (43-43) but Wolfe connected from beyond the arc to give Gwynedd the lead for the remainder of the contest.

Donaven Spencer layup would start another eight-point run for the visitors. Dunham's jumper with 9:56 remaining stretched the lead to 62-49. Now leading by 13, Wolfe netted six of the next eight points to give GMercyU their largest lead of eighteen (71-53) with just under eight minutes in the contest

Gwynedd controlled the glass, out-rebounding the Cavaliers, 40-24. Cubbage and Spencer each grabbed six boards apiece.

Voshon Mack paced the Cavaliers with 17 with teammate Ivan Robinson adding 16.

The Griffins return back to action on Wednesday when they host Marymount at 8 p.m. in an Atlantic East matchup.
