BUFFALO, N.Y. – New Paltz scored an uncontested layup as the final buzzer sounded to put the Hawks ahead for the third and final time of the game as they slipped past host Buffalo State, 66-64, in SUNYAC action this afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Sheldon Adams (Rochester/Bishop Kearney) led the Bengals in scoring with 18 points to go along with seven rebounds and four steals.
- Kay Grant (Jamaica/Thomas Jefferson) chipped in 10 points and seven rebounds while Dom Grayer (Brooklyn/Bishop Loughlin) added nine points and four rebounds.
- New Paltz stormed out of the gates by scoring 12 of the first 16 point to take an early lead but Buffalo State slowly chipped away until a 3-pointer from Steven Calvo (Bronx/Riverdale/Kinsbridge Acad.) even the score at 16-16 with 11:34 left in the first half.
- The Hawks reclaimed the lead less than a minute later and held onto it for the remainder of the first stanza to take a 36-32 lead at halftime.
- Both teams traded baskets in the early minutes of the second frame until a 3-pointer by Kareem Holmes (New York/The Knox School) gave Buffalo State the 46-45 lead. Grayer connected on fast break layup on the next possession to push the lead to 48-45.
- After New Paltz took back the lead two possessions later, the Hawks pushed the lead to 64-57 on three free throws by Tristan Wissemann with 3:52 left in the contest.
- The Bengals were given life as New Paltz missed four-consecutive free throws in the final minute that allowed Buffalo State to tally a pair of layups from Grant and a 3-pointer by Grayer to tie the game with 40 seconds left.
- A miss jumper by the Hawks gave Buffalo State the ball under the opposing basket with two seconds remaining, but a final Bengal turnover sent the ball back to New Paltz under their own basket.
- Scott Reisert scored an uncontested layup as the final buzzer sounded to give the Hawks the win.
- New Paltz finished 5 for 18 from the charity stripe but outrebounded the Bengals 48-38 in the contest.
- Buffalo State caused 18 turnovers and held the Hawks to 38 percent shooting in the second half to allow for the comeback.
FOR THE FOES
- Scott Reisert finished with 20 points, seven rebounds and five steals to pace the Hawks
- Tristan Wissemann chipped in 12 points while Paddy Parr added four points and 11 rebounds.
