More news about: Washington and Jefferson

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- Zach Queen (Jeannette, Pa./Hempfield Area) scored a career-high 18 points in Washington & Jefferson men's basketball's 75-61 PAC win over Bethany on Saturday, Jan. 12, at the Henry Memorial Center.

With the victory, the Presidents improve to 7-9 overall and 5-2 in conference, which ranks second in the league standings. The team's five PAC wins are its highest total since the 2013-14 campaign when W&J won eight.

The Presidents took the lead early in today's contest, storming ahead 17-9 by the 13:35 mark of the first half. Alexander Skowron (Sewickley, Pa./Quaker Valley) and Primo Zini (Morgantown, W. Va./Trinity Christian) fueled the W&J offense early on with four points apiece.

Unfortunately for the Red & Black, the Bison answered by evening the score at 17-all with eight unanswered points over the next two minutes. This led to a back-and-forth remainder of the half. W&J got the best of its conference foe before the end of the first, taking a 31-29 advantage into the break.

It was in the second that the Presidents separated themselves. The Red & Black score the first 12 points of the half to storm ahead by 14, 43-29. Queen sank a pair of three-pointers in this half-opening run.

Despite a few comeback attempts by Bethany, W&J held strong in the half to take the 75-61 triumph.

The main difference in today's contest was the two teams' free throw attempts. The Red & Black led the way with 20 free throw makes on 25 attempts, while the Bison went just 3-for-9.

Leading the way for the Presidents was Queen, as he added a career-best seven rebounds to his game-high 18 points. The sophomore did all of his damage from behind the arc, going 6-for-10 from deep.

Zini also ended the day in double digits with 15 points, nine of which came from the free throw line. He also tallied three boards, two assists and three steals.

Rounding out W&J's double-digit scorers was Cameron Seemann (Loveland, Ohio/Archbishop Moeller), who recorded 12 points. Nicholas Campalong (Sewickley, Pa./Ambridge) finished fourth on the team with nine points to go along with five rebounds. Sven Zepic (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) added a game-high five assists in 22 minutes.

The Presidents will return to the court on Wednesday, Jan. 16, for a 7:30 p.m. road showdown against Grove City.
