MEN'S BASKETBALL: York College 88, Delaware Valley University 71

DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Delaware Valley University erased a 15-point first half deficit, but could not hang on, as visiting York College came away with an 88-71 non-conference victory.

The Aggies dropped back to .500 on the season at 3-3, while the Spartans improved to 6-2 as they look to get back to the NCAA tournament after being eliminated in round two last season.

York used the first 5:13 of the game to go on a 17-3 run, and eventually led by as many as 15 at 21-6 with 13:03 still to play in the first half.

DelVal fired back with a 27-9 run over the next eight minutes of action fueled by 14 points from junior guard Mike Cianciulli. Cianciulli hit consecutive layups, including an and-1 play, to spark the run, and capped it with another old fashioned three-point play that put the Aggies ahead, 33-30, at the 5:03 mark.

 The Aggies led by 11 at the break after consecutive treys from Damani Myers and Damian Washington made it 51-40 late in the stanza.

Cianciulli hit a field goal to start the second half, and Washington converted an and-1 play to get the DelVal lead to 56-41, its largest of the game. It maintained a double-digit lead at 64-52 with 12:30 to play.

From there, the Spartans went on a 23-2 run over the next 10 minutes of play to pull away to a 75-66 lead, and eventually, the 88-71 win.

Jared Wagner had nine points and Joey Polczynski hit one of his game-high five three's during the comeback spurt. The duo finished the game with 23 points apiece and Wagner dished out a game-high six assists. Jason Bady stood out defensively for York with five blocked shots, five steals and nine boards, to go with nine points and four assists. Darin Gordon came off the bench to contribute a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds.

For the Aggies, Cianciulli matched his season-high with a game-best 27 point effort on 10-of-16 shooting. Washington finished with 17 points, three steals and two boards while Alex Matsinye dropped in 10 points, five rebounds and three assists. Andre' Butler led the team with seven boards to go with two steals and an assist.

DelVal will wrap up its four-game home-stand with its first Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom matchup of the year against Manhattanville College.
