How It Happened

• The game got off to a very frenetic pace but the scoring didn't keep up as the opening four minutes of the game featured just a combined 12 points despite the high tempo. The Spartans pushed out to a 14-8 lead on a steal and dunk by Jared Wagner at the 11:47 mark of the first half. The Griffins got a three-point play from Rich Dunham to cut the Spartan lead to one at 14-13. The Green and White then put together a 11-0 run fueled by a pair of Jason Bady lay ups and a big Mike Frauenheim three-pointer as the Spartan lead grew to 12 with 8:23 left in the opening half.

• The Spartan lead vacillated between nine and 12 points over the next four minutes but the Griffins never let the Spartans get any further in front. Gwynedd Mercy went on a 15-6 run to cut the Spartan lead to just three at 39-36. Junior Joey Polczynski converted a three-point play with two seconds left in the half to give York a 42-36 lead heading to the intermission.

• The Spartans turned on the defense to start the second half and that fed an offense that exploded in the early stages of the stanza. The Spartans held the Griffins scoreless for the opening 6:26 of the half. While the York defense was locking down Gwynedd Mercy, the offense ripped off 14 straight points as the lead ballooned to 20 at 56-36.

• The York run topped out at 33-12 as the Green and White led 72-44 with 8:16 left in regulation. The York lead grew to as many as 29 before the Spartans settled for the 23-point win.

• York finished the second half outscoring the Griffins 43-26 as the Green and White shot a blistering 57.7% from the floor in the second half including 7-for-14 from three. While the Spartans were getting it done on offense, the defense limited the Griffins to 28.1% shooting in the second half.
