Collins Hits 1000 as Drew Tops Centenary

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. - Junior guard Riley Collins scored his 1000th career point in the first half, then dropped 18 of his game-high 22 points in the second half as the Drew University men's basketball team pulled away for a 75-62 non-conference victory at Centenary University on Sunday. Senior forward Nate Aldrich added a double-double of 18 points and 12 rebounds for the Rangers, who rallied from a nine-point first-half deficit.

Turning Point: The game was tied (39-39) with 15:04 remaining before Collins and the Rangers (4-1) got hot, reeling off a 14-3 run to assume an 11-point lead with 11:49 to go. Collins scored the first 10 points of the run before senior guard Dan Roibal finished it with back-to-back lay-ups. The Cyclones (0-5) were unable to get closer than nine the rest of the way.

Rally Time: Drew opened the game on a 7-0 run, only to see Centenary climb back into and take the lead midway through the half. The Cyclones enjoyed their largest lead (30-21) with 4:59 left in the period, but the Rangers closed the stanza with a 9-2 run, setting up their big second-half push. Collins reached his milestone during the run, hitting a free throw with 2:21 on the clock.

Top Performers: Collins shot 7-for-9 from the field, including 4-for-4 from 3-point range while becoming the 19th 1,000-point scorer in program history. Aldrich also shot 7-for-9 while posting his second-straight double-double and the 32nd of his career. Senior forward Sky Harris contributed eight points and seven rebounds off the bench while senior guard Darius Reiter dished out five assists. 

Stat Sheet: The Rangers shot 44.6 percent from the field while holding Centenary to 36.7 percent shooting. Drew out-rebounded the Cyclones 44-33.
