LISLE, IL - The Benedictine University men's basketball team opened the home potion of the season with a loss to visiting North Central College in the annual Tony LaScala-Bill Warden trophy contest.

THE DETAILS
• Benedictine jumped out to an early 7-2 lead connecting on five straight points with baskets from Eric Grygo around a Bryan Jakobsze free throw
• The lead reached 11-4 and prompted a timeout on a Troy Burrows jumper and a steal followed by a breakaway dunk from Jakobsze
• North Central took the lead for the first time with 12:14 left in the half and most of the remaining portion of the half was close
• Back-to-back threes from Jakobsze and Burrows put Benedictine ahead 28-26 with 3:15 left before North Central closed on an 8-0 run to lead 34-28 at the half
• The lead quickly swelled to double figures in the second half as North Central did not trail the rest of the way
• The visitors utilized a 14-0 run, holding Benedictine scoreless for over four minutes, to open a 22-point edge at 64-42
• Threes from Justis McNeal and Mason Sobiesk in the final minute accounted for the final tally
STAT LEADERS
• Benedictine shot 40.4 percent from the floor in the contest but could not overcome 19 turnovers, which led to 28 points
• Benedictine held a 35-32 edge on the glass but managed just eight second chance points
• Carl Singletary, Jr. led Benedictine with 12 points, making 5-of-6 attempts from the floor
• Jakobsze finished with 10 while Grygo reeled in 14 rebounds
• The bench scored 38 points
