LISLE, IL - The Benedictine University men's basketball team opened the home potion of the season with a loss to visiting North Central College in the annual Tony LaScala-Bill Warden trophy contest.

Benedictine jumped out to an early 7-2 lead connecting on five straight points with baskets from Eric Grygo around a Bryan Jakobsze free throw
The lead reached 11-4 and prompted a timeout on a Troy Burrows jumper and a steal followed by a breakaway dunk from Jakobsze
North Central took the lead for the first time with 12:14 left in the half and most of the remaining portion of the half was close
Back-to-back threes from Jakobsze and Burrows put Benedictine ahead 28-26 with 3:15 left before North Central closed on an 8-0 run to lead 34-28 at the half
The lead quickly swelled to double figures in the second half as North Central did not trail the rest of the way
The visitors utilized a 14-0 run, holding Benedictine scoreless for over four minutes, to open a 22-point edge at 64-42
Threes from Justis McNeal and Mason Sobiesk in the final minute accounted for the final tally

Benedictine shot 40.4 percent from the floor in the contest but could not overcome 19 turnovers, which led to 28 points
Benedictine held a 35-32 edge on the glass but managed just eight second chance points

Jakobsze finished with 10 while Grygo reeled in 14 rebounds
