Trinity Men's Basketball Wins Easy At Elms

Chicopee, Mass. - Junior guard Christian Porydzy (South Glastonbury, Conn.) scored a game-high 22 points to lead the visiting Trinity College Bantams to an 82-55 victory over the Elms College Blazers in men's basketball action this evening.  Trinity improves to 3-0 while the Blazers drop to 0-5.  The Bantams held Elms to 35.1 percent shooting from the field and just three made shots from behind the arc in 19 tries.  Trinity visits Nichols on Sunday at 3 p.m. in its next game.

Trinity led wire-to-wire, beginning with a three-pointer by junior tri-captain Nick Seretta (Greenfield, Mass.) 12 seconds into the game.  The Bantams took their first double-digit lead at 21-11 with 9:15 remaining in the first half on a trey by sophomore forward Francis Uzorh (Lagos, Nigeria), and led, 39-19, at the break.  Seretta and Uzorh both had eight points for the Bantams, while Pablo Ortiz had eight points for Elms at halftime.

Trinity junior guard Joe Bell (Manchester, N.H.) made a layup to give the Bantams a 45-21 lead with 17:18 left in the second stanza, but Elms went on a 20-6 run to cut its deficit to 52-41 on a pair of free throws by Michael Ohradka with 10:01 on the clock.  With the visitors holding onto their double-digit advantage at 57-46 with 7:32 remaining, senior tri-captain forward Connor Merinder (Andover, Mass.) made a pair of free throws and a layup that jumpstarted the Trinity offense and the Bantams scored 25 of the game's final 30 points.

Seretta and Merinder joined Porydzy in double figures in scoring with 17 and 11 points, respectively, while Merinder grabbed a team-high seven rebounds, and Seretta collected six boards and five assists. The Bantam defense made 14 steals and blocked six shots, including four swipes by Porydzy and three steals and three blocks by junior tri-captain Kyle Padmore (Milton, Mass.).  Ortiz paced the Blazers with 18 points and seven rebounds, while Ohradka scored 10 points.
