Millikin Men’s Basketball Opens with Victory

          The Millikin men's basketball team opened the 2018-19 season with a 76-71 win over the University of Dubuque on November 8 at the Griswold Center in Decatur, Illinois.

Millikin trailed 39-35 at halftime, but outscored the Spartans by nine points in the

Second half to pull out the victory. Millikin shot 38 percent from the field while Dubuque hit 47 percent of its shots. Millikin took nine more shots in the game than the Spartans thanks in part to a 41-29 rebounding advantage.

          Millikin was lead in scoring by DaVante Harrell with a double double with 29 points and 10 rebounds. The 29 points was a career high for Harrell. Junior Zach Fisher and his brother freshman Calvin Fisher each scored 10 points for the Big Blue. Jordan Cunningham had nine rebounds with Calvin Fisher pulling down six.

          Marcus McDaniel led Dubuque with 16 points followed by Michael Williams with 15. Avery Butler had 11 points and a team high 11 rebounds for the Spartans.

          Millikin plays at Principia College on Saturday night at 7 p.m.
