William Paterson Men’s Basketball Season Comes to an End in ECAC Tournament, 64-57

WAYNE, N.J. – The second-seeded William Paterson men's basketball team (16-13) saw its season come to an end with a 64-57 loss to visiting third-seeded Baruch (16-11) in the ECAC Tournament first round Feb. 28.

 

WP opened the game 3-for-14 (.214) from the field as the Bearcats surged to a 23-9 advantage by the 9:27 mark. The Pioneers then went 9-for-15 (.600) to end the first half, putting together a 21-5 run for a 30-28 halftime lead as 10 different players got into the scoring column.

 

With William Paterson ahead by a 36-28 count just 2:13 into the second period, Baruch answered by scoring 18 of the next 20 points, pulling ahead by a 46-38 margin with 10:12 remaining.

 

Senior guard George Sapp's steal and layup made it a one-point game at 58-57 with 2:30 on the clock, but the Bearcats kept the Pioneers off the scoreboard for the remainder of the game, scoring the final six points for the seven-point victory.

 

Senior forward Richy Espinal paced WP with 13 points, 15 rebounds and three steals. Senior guard Dapo Badmos added 10 tallies, while junior forward Saint Simeon Beaubrun scored nine while pulling down eight rebounds.

 

Senior forward Chimaechi Ekekeugbor had 37 points and 11 rebounds for Baruch.
