FARMINGDALE, N.Y. – The Yeshiva University men's basketball team had its eight-game winning streak snapped by Farmingdale State, as the host Rams earned a double-overtime victory by a score of 73-69, on Tuesday evening. Yeshiva's eight-game win streak was the longest in the program's history as a member of the NCAA.

The Rams advance to 15-4 in Skyline play (17-7 overall) and clinch the No. 1 seed in the upcoming Skyline Conference championships. Yeshiva drops to 12-7 in the conference (14-10 overall). The Maccabees can finish no higher than the fourth seed in the Skyline standings. As of right now, Yeshiva and Mount Saint Mary are tied for fourth, with the Macs owning the tiebreaker. The two teams are a lock to face each other in the opening round of the Skyline Conference championships, next Tuesday. A Yeshiva win or a Mount Saint Mary loss on Saturday evening will result in the Maccabees hosting the game. A Mount Saint Mary win and a Yeshiva loss means that the Knights will host the first round matchup.

Against Farmingdale State, Yeshiva had an off night shooting the ball, going 33.3 percent from the field and just 26.3 percent from 3-point range. The Rams shot 45.1 percent from the field. Farmingdale State dominated the boards, 55-35.

Yeshiva struggled for the majority of the first half, falling behind 36-24 with 1:10 remaining in the period. A 3-point field goal by sophomore guard Simcha Halpert with 54 ticks left on the clock jump-started Yeshiva's rally. On the next offensive possession, sophomore forward Bar Alluf nailed a 3-pointer, while being fouled. He hit a shot from the charity stripe to complete the four-point play and pull the visiting team to within five, at 36-31. That would be the score at the end of the half.

Yeshiva went on a 13-1 run in the second stanza, capped off by a 3-point field goal by Alluf, to put YU in front, 44-40, with 13:55 remaining in regulation time. Later in the half, with the game tied 50-50, Farmingdale scored four unanswered points to put Yeshiva in a hole. Senior forward Eli Mamann answered with a 3-pointer to cut Yeshiva's deficit to one.

Farmingdale State once again grabbed the lead, 56-53. However, with 1:10 left to play in the second half, Alluf drilled a clutch 3-point basket to tie the game. Both teams were held scoreless for the remaining minute of regulation and as a result, overtime would be needed.

After Yeshiva fell behind, Katz drained a shot from beyond the arc to give YU a narrow lead, 59-58, with 3:10 left in the period. George Riefenstahl answered with a layup to put the Rams back in front. With Yeshiva in possession of the ball, sophomore forward Gabriel Leifer found classmate Tyler Hod, who laid it up and in to help Yeshiva regain the advantage, with 2:08 to go in the first overtime. Farmingdale answered as a free throw by Ali Mableton capped off three unanswered points to give the Rams the lead again, 63-61, with 23 seconds left. Yeshiva had the ball and with nine seconds remaining, Hod drew a foul. He connected on both free throws to allow Yeshiva to tie the game, 63-63. Farmingdale State had a chance to win it, but Yeshiva's defense was able to prevent the opposition from scoring in the closing seconds. A second overtime period would be needed.

Farmingdale State scored the first six points to take control of the game, 69-63. With less than two minutes remaining, Alluf answered with a 3-pointer to pull Yeshiva within three, at 69-66. Chaz Platt answered with a 3-point shot of his own to extend Farmingdale's lead back to six, at 72-66, with 1:09 remaining in the second overtime period. Leifer kicked it out to Halpert, who nailed a 3-pointer to once again make it a three-point game. On the next possession, Jermaine Fraser tried to clinch the game with a layup, but Leifer blocked the shot and Hod grabbed the rebound. Alluf had a chance to tie the game with a 3-point shot, but the ball rimmed off with nine ticks left on the clock. Riefenstahl grabbed the rebound and was fouled intentionally. He hit the first free throw to clinch the game. The defending Skyline Conference champions went on to earn the hard-fought conference win, 73-69.

For the evening, Alluf led all players with 27 points and forced three steals. Halpert produced 16 points with six boards, while Leifer brought down 13 rebounds, dished out seven assists, and forced three steals to go along with four points. Hod scored 10 points with four caroms and three steals.

For Farmingdale, Riefenstahl produced a double-double with 15 points and 16 rebounds.

Yeshiva will conclude the regular season on Saturday evening, as the Maccabees host the Panthers of Purchase College, in a Skyline showdown at the Max Stern Athletic Center, beginning at 8:30 p.m. If Maccabees win, they will host Mount Saint Mary in the first round of the Skyline Conference championships, next Tuesday. It will be senior night as graduating seniors Mamann and Ethan Gipsman will be honored with a ceremony prior to the start of the game.
