Tommie men continue home success

Sophomore center Erik Davis had a career-best 14 points to lead St. Thomas to a 70-61 defeat of St. Mary's in MIAC men's basketball play Wednesday at Schoenecker Arena.

Freshman guard Burt Hedstrom grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds and had five assists for the Tommies (14-10 overall, 12-7 MIAC), who secured the program's 14th consecutive winning season and improved to 8-1 at home this season. Connor Bair added 11 points and six boards.

St. Thomas held out two starters and used 14 players to help wear down St. Mary's (1-23, 0-19). UST trailed 41-36 at halftime but limited the visitors to four field goals and 20 points over the final 20 minutes. SMU made 25-of-34 free throws to stay close, while UST made just 11-of-23.

UST used a 13-1 run to take a 53-45 lead under 13:00 to play. St. Mary's never got closer than eight points in the game's final 9:00.

Kareem Anthony-Bello scored a game-best 20 points for SMU.
