Noe Shines Late as R-MC Men's Basketball Edges E&H 63-59

ASHLAND, Va. - Senior Daniel Noe (Fairfax, Va./Bishop Ireton) scored four of the final six points for the Yellow Jackets and had a key defensive stop and rebound in the final 10 seconds as the Randolph-Macon men's basketball team nipped Emory & Henry 63-59 on Senior Day Saturday afternoon in Crenshaw Gym in a battle for first place in the ODAC.

The Yellow Jackets (17-6, 11-3 ODAC) sit alone in first in the conference standings. The Wasps (18-5, 10-4 ODAC) were held to their lowest point total of the season and have dropped four straight.

Noe scored the first four points of the game and four of the final six for his eight points. Junior Montese Adams (Richmond, Va./Fuqua) and freshman Buzz Anthony (Arnold, Md./Archbishop Spalding) both had 13 points, while sophomore Corey Bays (Bel Air, Md./CM Wright) hit four three-pointers for 12 points off the bench.

R-MC held a slim 57-54 lead with 1:30 left. Noe nailed a long jumper from the top of the key with 1:10 remaining as the Yellow Jackets took a 59-54 advantage. A follow-up bucket by E&H made it 59-56 with 49.8 seconds left. Following a turnover by R-MC, Noe contested a layup attempt and came up with the rebound with less than 10 seconds remaining. Noe was fouled and made both ends of a one-and-one to give the home team a 61-56 lead. The Wasps hit a three-pointer with 4.7 seconds left to make it a two-point game. Anthony sank a pair of free throws with 1.4 seconds remaining to make the final 63-59.

Noe scored the first two buckets of the game to give the Yellow Jackets a lead they would not relinquish. A three-pointer by junior Grayson Midulla (Glen Allen, Va./Glen Allen) and a layup by junior Jon Nowell (Riverdale, Ga./Blair Academy) gave R-MC a 9-2 lead with 15:30 left in the first period. E&H nailed a couple treys to pull within one before a three-ball by Anthony capped a 13-4 run as the Yellow Jackets went up 22-12 with 8:50 remaining. E&H scored nine straight to again pull within one at 22-21 with five minutes left. Anthony had a layup and Midulla sank a pair of free throws as R-MC led 28-23 at the break. Midulla had seven points and three rebounds to pace the Yellow Jackets.

The Wasps started the second half with a 7-2 spurt to level the score at 30-30. Bays buried a pair of treys to cap a 20-8 run as R-MC took a 50-38 advantage with 8:25 left in the second half. A 16-7 spurt by the Wasps made it 57-54 with 1:30 remaining.

Adams went 6 for 8 from the floor and hit one three-pointer. Anthony was 4 for 6 on field goals and 3 for 4 on treys. Bays went 4 for 8 from behind the arc, hitting three in the second half.

Junior Darryl Williams (Columbia, Md./Glenelg Country) paced R-MC with eight rebounds, while Adams corralled six. Anthony and sophomore Korey Turner (Midlothian, Va./Amelia Academy) both had four assists.

Randolph-Macon returns to action on Wednesday, Feb. 14 at 7 p.m. in ODAC action at Hampden-Sydney.
