WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Arcadia men's basketball team shot 17-of-32 from beyond the arc Saturday afternoon en route to a 101-91 upset of No. 11 Lycoming. Junior Josh Scott led the way with 26 points, highlighted by a 5-of-9 showing from long range, as the Knights claimed their first-ever win over a nationally ranked opponent.
FOR THE RECORD:
- The Scarlet and Grey improved to 12-9 on the year and 7-5 in MAC Commonwealth play.
- The Warriors fell to 19-3 overall and 10-3 in the conference.
COACH SAYS:
- "I couldn't be prouder and happier for our young men," said head coach Justin Scott. "They really competed and stayed together. Everyone was focused and contributed to this huge road win. We showed a lot of maturity and growth today; hopefully we can build some momentum from this historical win to finish out conference play."
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The first 5:15 of the first half saw Arcadia shoot 5-of-9 from the floor for an early 13-12 advantage. Down five with just under 12 minutes to go in the opening stanza, junior Jon Lott deposited back-to-back threes to put the Knights back in front at 23-22 with 11:10 to go until the break.
- The hosts quickly recaptured the lead, however, Arcadia ended the half on an 18-10 run over the final 5:28 to take a 52-50 lead into the break. Scott netted eight points in the span, followed by classmate Phil Pierfy with six points and freshman Da'Kquan Davis with four. The trio combined for 5-of-11 shooting, including 2-of-4 from distance, and 6-of-8 from the charity stripe.
- Lights out shooting opened the second half, as the Knights were a perfect 4-of-4 from the floor, including converting their only three-point attempt, and 2-of-3 from the free throw line as Arcadia held a 63-60 lead just over four minutes into the final frame.
- Lycoming responded with 16 of the next 26 points and held a 76-73 lead with 7:35 left in regulation. Senior Brandon Thompson retaliated with back-to-back threes to help the Knights regain the lead; they would hold that lead for the rest of the game.
- Arcadia ended the day on a 22-13 run on 5-of-8 shooting, including 3-of-5 from downtown, and 9-of-12 from the stripe. Six different players scored during the span.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Scott's game-high 26 points came on 7-of-12 shooting, 5-of-9 from three and 7-of-8 from the free throw line. He was joined in double-figures by Davis (20), Pierfy (14) and Thompson (12).
- As a team, Arcadia shot 32-of-58 (55.2%) from the floor, including 17-of-32 (53.1%) from three.
- Davis, Scott and junior Jordan Sanders each dished out four assists, as the team combined for a season-high 25.
NOTES:
- The win marks the program's first known win over a ranked opponent in the NCAA era.
- The Knights handed the Warriors their first home loss of the season.
- The team's 101 points is the highest scoring output since November 29, 2015 when the Knights took down Misericordia 108-97.
- This is the second time this season Arcadia has beaten the top team in the conference.
