ONEONTA, NY – Visiting Sage (8-11, 3-7 E8) would emerge with a 91-89 overtime victory over Hartwick's men's basketball team (7-11, 4-5 E8) on Tuesday night at Lambros Arena. The lead would change hands six times in the overtime period. A Brandon LaForest (Cohoes, NY/Cohoes) driving layup gave the Hawks an 89-88 lead with 41 seconds left, but Anthony Mitchell's bucket five seconds later would give the Gators the lead for good.

The Hawks had a three attempt with two ticks remaining but it was off the mark and the visitors tacked on a point from the free-throw line. With one second left and the ball under their own basket the Hawks were unable to get a shot off and the Gators escaped with the win.

Corey Baker (Granby, MA/Granby) scored a team-high 21 points with a game-high five three-pointers for the Hawks. LaForest added a double-double of 12 points and 10 assists. He also had six rebounds.

Tommy Kelly (Niskayuna, NY/Niskayuna) and Patrick Garey (Johnson City, NY/Johnson City) each added nine points. Marc du Moulin (Altamont, NY/Guilderland) scored eight points and grabbed a team-high seven boards.

Leading scorer Kevin Townes (Lagrangeville, NY/Our Lady of Lourdes), who was in foul trouble for much of the night, was limited to only seven points in 21 minutes. Austin Haskell (Kirkwood, NY/Susquehanna Valley) also had seven points.

The Hawks would hold a lead of 18 points in the first half of play. With the score tied at 16-all, the Hawks would go on a 27-9 run to grab a 43-25 advantage with 4:43 left in the half. Hartwick would enter halftime up 11 points, 48-37.

It would take less than nine minutes for the Gators to draw even at 59-59. Three points or less would separate the two teams over a five-minute span deep in the half. The Hawks led 74-71 but an 8-0 Sage run put it in front 79-74 with 2:40 showing on the clock. Two free throws from Baker with 36 seconds left made it a three-point game and he evened the score with a three-pointer 22 seconds later to set up overtime.

The lead changed hands 11 times in the contest. The score was also tied eight different times. Sage shot 48% from the floor with Hartwick making 47%. The Gators out-rebounded the Hawks, 44-36.

Sage was paced by Kevin Lenehan's 26 points and 11 rebounds. Mitchell finished with 19 points and Isaiah Scurry added 17. Wayne Weir finished with 12.

Hartwick next travels to Nazareth on Friday for a 6 p.m. meeting with the Golden Flyers.
