ASHLAND, Va. - Sophomore Korey Turner (Midlothian, Va./Amelia Academy) scored 11 points, one of four Yellow Jackets to score in double figures, as the Randolph-Macon men's basketball team topped Randolph 68-47 in ODAC action Saturday afternoon in Crenshaw Gym.
The Yellow Jackets (14-5, 8-2 ODAC) stand alone in second place in the ODAC standings. The WildCats fell to 4-15 overall and 1-9 in conference play.
Junior Montese Adams (Richmond, Va./Fuqua) also tallied 11 points for R-MC. Senior Daniel Noe (Fairfax, Va./Bishop Ireton) and junior Grayson Midulla (Glen Allen, Va./Glen Allen) both had 10 points. The Yellow Jackets have had at least four score in double figures six times this season and have won all six contests.
Randolph scored the first six points of the game before Noe had four points to cap a 6-0 spurt as R-MC tied it at 6-6 six minutes into the contest. The WildCats answered with five straight points to go up 11-6. The Yellow Jackets trailed 13-8 before Adams had seven points in a 13-4 run as R-MC took a 21-17 advantage with 6:20 left in the first half. The Yellow Jackets trailed 21-19 before Midulla capped a 10-0 run with a three-pointer as R-MC took a 31-19 lead with two minutes remaining. Anthony went 4 for 4 from the free throw line in the run. Following a three-point play by RC, Turner had a layup with 10 seconds left to give the home team a 33-22 advantage at halftime. Adams had nine points, Midulla added eight and Anthony chipped in seven Anthony also had five rebounds and three assists to lead the team in the first period.
RC scored the first three points of the second half before R-MC put up six straight, including the final four by Noe, to make it 39-25 with 14:40 remaining. The Yellow Jackets were ahead 43-29 before back-to back treys by junior Darryl Williams (Columbia, Md./Glenelg Country) and sophomore Corey Bays (Bel Air, Md./CM Wright) sparked a 15-2 run to give R-MC a 58-31 lead with 6:50 left. The Yellow Jackets maintained a lead of at least 20 points the rest of the game on their way to the 68-47 win.
The R-MC defense matched its season low for opponents points with 47. The Yellow Jackets defeated Geneseo 63-47 in the third game of the season on Nov. 19. R-MC also held the WildCats to 36.5% shooting from the floor (19-52), including 13.6% on three-pointers (3 for 22).
Anthony finished with seven points and led all players with eight rebounds and six assists.
Randolph-Macon returns to ODAC action on Wednesday, January 31 at 5 p.m. at Shenandoah.
