BEREA, Ohio — No. 25 Marietta College avenged a last-second loss earlier this season to No. 24 Baldwin Wallace with a 65-52 win Saturday (Jan. 27) in Ohio Athletic Conference men's basketball action.

"I'm really proud of our guys for going on the road today against a really good BW team and finding a way to get it done," Marietta head coach Jon VanderWal said. "To hold BW's explosive offense to just 52 points on their home floor is pretty remarkable."

The Pioneers improve to 15-4 overall and 9-3 in the OAC. Baldwin Wallace falls to 14-5 on the season and 8-4 on conference play. Muskingum knocked off league-leading John Carroll, 112-103, in New Concord moving Marietta into a tie with the Blue Streaks atop the OAC standings.

Marietta had two players scored in double figures led by senior Dillon Young as he scored a game-high 16 points to go along with seven rebounds. Avery Williams added 14 points and eight boards, while Kyle Dixon chipped in with nine points and nine rebounds.

Cam Kuhn led the Yellow Jackets with 13 points. Jake Fetherolf notched a double-double with 12 points and 18 boards.

Baldwin Wallace took the early lead and remained in front for most of the first half. The Yellow Jackets led by as many as eight points in the opening period and took a 35-31 advantage into halftime.

BW matched its biggest lead four minutes into the second half when Michael Quiring converted 1-of-2 attempts at the free throw line for a 42-34 lead. A Kuhn three-pointer would be the only Yellow Jacket points scored in the next 12 minutes as Marietta erupted for a 21-3 run.

A layup from Mike Hall with 10:27 left in the game put Marietta in front, 47-45. It was the Pioneers' first lead of the afternoon and one they would not relinquish. By the time MC's run was over, the Pioneers had built a 10-point lead, 55-45.

Williams provided the exclamation point with a slam dunk in the final seconds giving Marietta its biggest lead of the day, 65-52.

For the game, Marietta shot 40.6% (26-of-64) from the floor, 20.0% (3-of-15) from three-point range and 76.9% (10-of-13) at the free throw line. The Yellow Jackets were 20-of-64 (31.3%) from the floor, 7-of-34 (20.6%) behind the arc and 5-of-7 (71.4%) at the line.

The Pioneers outrebounded Baldwin Wallace, 47-39. Both teams took care of the basketball with Marietta committing just five turnovers and the Yellow Jackets had seven.

Marietta returns home to host the University of Mount Union on Wednesday (Jan. 31). Tip off is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Ban Johnson Arena.
