Wisniewski, Needleman and Todd Net Double Digits as WPI Falls at Springfield

Springfield, MA --- Sophomore Jake Ross (Northampton, MA) delivered a career-high 39 points and surpassed the 1,000-point milestone in just his 44th game as Springfield defeated visiting WPI, 86-67, Wednesday night in a NEWMAC Men's Basketball matchup at Blake Arena.

The Pride improve to 12-6 overall and 6-1 in league play while the Engineers (10-8, 4-3) see their four-game winning-streak snapped.

Junior Cam Earle (South Hadley, MA) added 15 points and senior Andy McNulty (West Springfield, MA) contributed 12 as Ross and sophomore Heath Post (Cheshire, CT) each pulled down eight rebounds. Ross, who was 12-for-13 at the charity stripe, also handed out seven assists and did not commit a foul.

Sophomore Jake Wisniewski (West Brookfield, MA) totaled 13 points followed by freshman Jake Needleman (Morganville, NJ) with 11. Senior Aaron Todd (York, ME) chipped in with 10 points and a team-best seven rebounds.

Wisniewski gave the Engineers their only lead with a layup just 41 seconds in to the contest. McNulty pushed the Pride lead into double digits for good with a 3-pointer at 12:37 in the first. Springfield later enjoyed a game-best 21-point cushion with 16:20 to play.

WPI turned the ball over two more times than Springfield; however, the Pride benefitted by scored 16 of the 17 points off turnovers. The hosts also had a 32-26 margin in the paint while the Boynton Hillers scored 25 of 31 bench points and 13 of 16 second chance points.

The Engineers host Wheaton Saturday at 2pm while the Pride head to Worcester for a 1pm meeting at Clark.
