Gwynedd Mercy Conquers Keystone To Extend Win Streak

LAPLUME, PA. -- The Gwynedd Mercy University Men's Basketball team scored a 96-77 road victory at Keystone College on Monday evening in Colonial States Athletic Conference action to win their fifth game in a row.

Will Davis led all scorers with a game-high 26 points while making a perfect 11-of-11 from the free throw line. Rich Dunham finished with 22 points while Rip Engel (18) and Matt Sommers (13) rounded out the Griffin double-digit scorers.

For the game the Griffins (14-2, 9-1 CSAC) shot 31-of-63 (49.2%) from the field and made a total of 10 team three pointers led by Engel and Sommers with three each.

Gwynedd would hold an early 13-8 lead thanks to a Davis three pointer just over fifteen minutes remaining in the first half. The Griffins would stretch their lead to ten (23-13) on a Dunham jumper at the 11:05 mark. A Sommers three pointer would give GMercyU their largest lead of the half at 45-23 would just over three minutes remaining. A Jordan Perkins layup just before the buzzer opened up a 51-35 Gwynedd lead at the break.

Holding the lead throughout the early portion of the second half a Sommers triple would put Gwynedd back ahead by twenty (69-49) with eleven minutes remaining.  An Engel layup would give GMercyU their largest lead of the game 93-64 with 3:46 remaining.

GMercyU out-rebounded Keystone, 36-35, Davis led the Griffins with nine while Sommers and Chris Lopezeach added seven.

Mark Perry led the Giants (7-9, 6-4 CSAC) with 22 points on 9-of-10 shooting from the field. For the game Keystone shot 28-of-59 (47.5%) from the floor.

The Griffins who now hold sole possession of first place in the CSAC standings will stay on the road traveling to Rosemont on Wednesday evening at 7 p.m.
