Lakers Lose to League-Leading Cortland

OSWEGO, N.Y. - The Oswego State men's basketball team fought hard but could not overcome 11 3-pointers from league-leading Cortland in falling by a score of 68-59.  The Lakers fall to 8-9 overall and 5-5 in the SUNYAC while Cortland improves to 14-3 (9-1).

Oswego kicked things off on a layup by Jamir Ferebeebefore a 6-0 Cortland run on a pair of 3-pointers had the visitors up by four.  The teams traded baskets over the next ten minutes with Cortland mainaining a small edge.  A 7-0 run, highlighted by a Nicky Bonura 3-pointer,  put the visitors up 23-15 with 5:47.  

Oswego's Josh Ivey would score seven points to Bonura's 11 in the next five minutes as the pair went back and forth as the only scorers, with Cortland pushing out to a 14-point lead.  A Ferebee three just before the end of the first would send the teams into the intermission with Cortland up 36-25.

The Lakers would come out firing in the second half on a 7-0 Ferebee scoring run to close the lead down to four within the first two minutes of play.  Every time Oswego would get close, the Red Dragons had an answer.

Cortland outshot the Lakers 43.9% to 42.9% and had a slight rebounding edge at 35-32.  The big difference in the matchup was in 3-point shooting where the Red Dragons hit 11 (44%) to the Lakers six (28.6%).

Ferebee led the Lakers in points with 16.  Ivey (14) and Liam Sanborn (12) were also in double-figures.  Bonura (21) was one of four Red Dragons to notch a double-digit point total.

The team is back in action when on Friday when they travel to Geneseo for a 7:30 p.m. start.
