Waterville, Maine - Sam Jefferson had 15 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Colby College men's basketball team in a 61-51 victory over the Trinity College Bantams in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) play Sunday at Wadsworth Gymnasium.  Trinity falls to 11-4 overall and 2-2 in the NESCAC, while the Mules moved to 10-5 overall and 1-2 in the conference.

Colby held the Bantams to just 24.2 percent field-goal shooting in the first half and led, 29-21, at intermission. Trinity was down, 14-4, over seven minutes into the game before a trey by rookie guard Colin Donovan (Westborough, Mass.), but the Mules went back ahead, 24-9, before the Bantams closed the first half with a 12-5 run including eight points by sophomore guard Joseph Bell (Manchester, N.H.).  Colby opened up a 19-point lead in the second half with 13:09 to play. The Bantams chipped away and cut the margin to 10 points at 51-41 when Bell sank a three-pointer with 7:51 to play. Jefferson answered moments later with a three of his own, and the Mules maintained a comfortable advantage the rest of the way.

Trinity's starting five scored just 13 points, but the Bantam had some fine efforts off the bench. Bell was 4-for-6 from long range for a team-high 14 points, while sophomore Nick Seretta (Greenfield, Mass.) scored with nine points, and rookie forward Donald Jorden (Tampa, Fla.) had an active game with six points, seven rebounds, and four blocked shots.  Alex Dorion came off the bench with 14 points, making all five od his shot attempts and all four from beyond the arc.
