The University of Scranton men's basketball team pulled away in the second half for a 96-72 victory over Goucher in Landmark Conference play on Saturday afternoon in the Long Center.

The victory was the fifth straight for the Royals (7-8, 3-1 Landmark), who shot a season-high 57.6 percent from the field, including 20-for-30 (66.7 percent) in the second half. They led by eight, 38-30, at halftime before erupting for 58 second-half points to take control.

Scranton was led by sophomore forward Matthew Mancuso (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan), who scored a career-high 24 points on 8-for-11 from the floor. He also had five rebounds, three assists, two blocks and two steals. Senior guard Ethan Danzig (Clarks Green, Pa./Abington Heights) finished with 23 points while going 7-for-11 from 3-point range with three assists, two steals and a rebound.

Senior forward Drew Schankweiler (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg) had a big game in the paint, finishing with 17 points and 15 rebounds in 25 minutes. He went 7-for-8 from the field and is 75 percent (27-for-36) from the field during the five-game winning streak.

Scranton also received nine points, five assists, a rebound and a steal from sophomore guard Kyle DeVerna (Rockville Centre, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial), and eight assists, six points, three rebounds and a block from senior guard Kevin Doolan (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge).

The Royals hit 12 of 27 (44.4 percent) from 3-point range and won the rebounding battle, 36-30. They also made 16 of 20 (80 percent) at the free throw line and committed just 12 turnovers. Scranton also held a dominant 44-12 edge in points in the paint.

Goucher (0-14, 0-4 Landmark) was led by Elliott Wiley, who had 21 points. Dwayne Morton added 14 and Jacob Smith had 12. The Gophers shot 39.1 percent (25-for-64) from the field, including 12-for-27 (44.4 percent) from 3-point range. They also made 10 of 12 (83.3 percent) from the free throw line.

The University of Scranton men's basketball team will return to action on Wednesday, Jan. 17, when they travel to Bethlehem, Pa. to take on Moravian at 7 p.m.
