The Baruch College Bearcats ended a three-game CUNYAC skid by defeating John Jay College, 69-56, in a home contest on Thursday night in the ARC Arena.
The Bearcats scored 27 points off 23 turnovers and collected 13 steals to even their conference record at 3-3.
They led by as much as 10 points with under 10 minutes left, but saw that lead cut to one point on four different occasions in the final minutes, including 55-54 with 2:38 left.
William Sixsmith hit a key three for 58-54 advantage that forced a timeout by the Bloodhounds. Chimaechi Ekekeugbor and Anthony Gibbs each followed with a pair of free throws to help build a 7-0 run that was enough to clinch the win.
Ekekeugbor was tops with 22 points, six rebounds and four steals, while Andre Harris added 14 points.
Jerome Petty was the leading scorer for John Jay with 16 points.
