LYNCHBURG, Va. - Freshman Buzz Anthony (Arnold, Md./Archbishop Spalding) tallied a season-high 20 points, helping the Randolph-Macon men's basketball team post a 78-51 win at Randolph in ODAC action Saturday afternoon.
The Yellow Jackets (10-3, 4-0 ODAC) won their fourth straight contest. The Wildcats dropped to 3-10 overall, 0-4 in ODAC play.
Anthony went 6 for 13 from the floor, including 5 for 10 on three-pointers. He also dished out eight assists. Junior Montese Adams (Richmond, Va./Fuqua) added 15 points and grabbed six rebounds. Junior Grayson Midulla (Glen Allen, Va./Glen Allen) scored 14 points and snared eight boards. Junior Darryl Williams (Columbia, Md./Glenelg Country) registered a career-best 10 rebounds.
Three of R-MC's first six field goals were three-pointers as the Yellow Jackets bolted to a 16-5 lead with 13:35 left in the first period. Randolph used a 6-2 spurt to make it 18-11 before a layup by Midulla sparked an 8-0 run as the visitors built a 27-11 advantage with 7:40 remaining. The Wildcats scored eight straight to pull within eight at 27-19 with 4:45 left before a pair of buckets by Adams started a 12-2 run to end the half as R-MC took a 39-21 lead at the break. Midulla went 5 for 6 from the floor for 10 points, while Anthony added eight. The Yellow Jacket defense forced 13 turnovers, while R-MC committed just one.
R-MC's first six field goals in the second half were three-pointers, four by Anthony and two by Adams. The Yellow Jackets started the second period with a 24-12 run, taking a 63-34 lead with 11:10 remaining. A three-point play by Adams with 3:45 left gave R-MC its largest lead at 30 at 74-44. The Yellow Jackets would claim the 78-51 victory.
Freshman David Funderburg (Greensboro, N.C./Northwest Guilford) pulled down a season-high six rebounds and matched his season best with eight points.
Randolph-Macon returns to action on Wednesday, Jan. 10 for an ODAC contest at Bridgewater.
