KING'S MEN FALLS TO NEW PALTZ IN LYCOMING TOURNEY CONSOLATION GAME, 100-89

WILLIAMSPORT -- The King's College men's basketball team had five players reach double-figures in scoring but it wasn't enough as the Monarchs dropped a 100-89 decision to SUNY-New Paltz in the consolation game of the Basinger Memorial Tournament Saturday at Lycoming College.

With the win, New Paltz improved to 4-7 while King's slipped to 4-7.

In the first half, King's opened a 16-8 lead just 3:53 into the game after back-to-back baskets by Noah Tanner and Joshua Bailey. After New Paltz used a 6-0 spurt to trim the lead to 16-14, Tyler Millan and Pat Mitchell followed with baskets to give the Monarchs a 20-14 advantage at the 3:12 mark.

But New Paltz countered with a 14-3 run to take a 28-23 lead following a three-pointer by Mike Passaretti with 10:42 on the clock. The Hawks eventually built its biggest lead of the half at 55-43 with 1:13 to go before settling for a 55-44 lead at the break.

In the second half, King's slowly chipped away and eventually took a 61-60 lead with 15:14 remaining after back-to-back three-pointers by Bailey and Millan and a driving lay-up from Chris Fazzini. The Monarchs would build a 69-64 lead with 12:06 to play after a pair of foul should from Millan.

New Paltz, however, would respond with a 29-9 run to go ahead 93-78 with 3:51 to play after a Dylan Balducci three-pointer. The Monarchs would cut the gap to 96-89 with 0:27 to go but would draw no closer.

King's was led by all-tournament team selection Connor Callejas who scored a team-high 17 points with four rebounds and three assists. Millan followed with 16 points and three rebounds while Fazzini and Dan Angelo posted 12 points apiece. Tanner was the fifth Monarch to reach double-figures in scoring with 11 points. 

King's will return to the court Wednesday when the Monarchs open up MAC Freedom Conference play with a 6:00 PM home matchup against Delaware Valley University in Scandlon Gymnasium.
