Basketball Tripped Up on the Road vs. Farmingdale

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. – The Maritime basketball team scored 59 points on Saturday afternoon but it wasn't enough as the Privateers fell in a Skyline Conference matchup to the Farmingdale Rams on Saturday afternoon by a 71-59 margin.
 
Maritime was led by senior Patrick MacDonald (Buffalo, N.Y./Canisius), who connected on eight of his 13 field goals for a game-high 19 points. Sophomore Michael Walker (Bayport, N.Y./Bayport-Blue Point) added 12 points, while senior Isaiah Hayes (Jamaica, N.Y./Queens Teaching) registered 10 points.
 
MacDonald and Hayes both had double-doubles on the afternoon, as the pair was tied for the team lead with 13 rebounds apiece. Hayes also led the team with four assists on the day, while Walker was second on the team with three.
 
Sophomore Brendan McGovern (Seaford, N.Y./St. John the Baptist) had eight points, with senior John Liccese (Bronx, N.Y./Cardinal Spellman) adding seven, and freshman Brennan Whelan (Northport, N.Y./Northport) picked up two points.
 
Maritime got out to a quick start with a five-point lead at 7-2 as Walker scored five of the seven Privateer points in the first two minutes of the game. MacDonald got Maritime's lead up to seven at 13-6 with 15:29 left in the opening half, but Farmingdale responded and opened up an eight-point lead late in the half before Liccese connected on a layup to send Maritime into the locker room trailing by six at 30-24.
 
Farmingdale took a double-digit lead with 12:33 left in the second half at 43-33, as Maritime kept it close through the first seven minutes of the period.
 
Sophomore Jermaine Brathwaite (Brooklyn, N.Y./Nazareth Regional) got Maritime started back on the right foot with a free throw at the 10:45 mark, before Hayes connected on a layup followed by a lay-in by MacDonald to trim the deficit back down to seven. Farmingdale connected on a layup before Walker drained a three-pointer to trim the Ram lead to six at 47-41 with 8:48 left in regulation.
 
The Privateers were only able to trim the deficit back down to four through the remainder of the game before Farmingdale ran away late to cap off the 12-point win.
 
Maritime (2-3, 0-2 Skyline) finishes its four-game road trip with a 2-2 record and will return home to Riesenberg Hall Gym on Tuesday evening for a 7 p.m. start against the St. Joseph's (Bklyn) Bears.
 
Farmingdale (3-2, 1-1 Skyline) heads on the road this Tuesday, when the Rams visit Old Westbury for a 7 p.m. start against the Panthers at the Clark Athletic Center.
