UMHB men top Ozarks 74-51

Clarksville, Arkansas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's basketball team used solid shooting and stiff defense to grab control of the game as the Cru went on to a 74-51 victory over Ozarks Thursday night in Clarksville, Arkansas. UMHB improves to 7-3 overall and 2-2 in American Southwest Conference play with its third straight win. The loss drops the Eagles to 3-5 overall and 1-2 in ASC play on the season.

 

The Cru scored the game's opening basket and never trailed in building a 33-23 halftime lead. UMHB opened the second half with a 7-0 run to push the lead out to 17 and the Eagles never got closer than 10 points the rest of the way. The Cru would lead by as many as 25 points in the final minute.

 

Sam Moore led a balanced UMHB scoring effort with 18 points. Braden Hammond and Demarius Cress chipped in eight points apiece. Twelve different players scored for the Cru and Hammond and Justin Gammill grabbed seven rebounds apiece. UMHB shot 53 percent in the second half and hit 46 percent for the game. The Cru was 7-7 from the free-throw line and hit 7-23 from beyond the arc.

 

Zach Bobo and Kelvin Knight had 12 points each to lead Ozarks. Dylan Gray had a game-high 11 rebounds as Ozarks out rebounded UMHB 46-39. The Eagles shot just 30 percent from the field as a team, went 6-29 from three-point range and turned the ball over 22 times in the loss.

 

The UMHB men return to action with an ASC road game at U.T.-Tyler Saturday in Tyler. That will be the final game for the Cru before the Christmas break.
