ALBION, Mich. – Nathaniel Collins heated up late for Albion College – scoring all of his season-high 11 points in the final 6:15 of the game – in a 71-56 non-league loss to local rival Spring Arbor University at Kresge Gymnasium.
Ryan Lowe carried the load early for the Britons. He scored six points as Albion forged a tie at 12 midway through the first half.
Tommy Hamilton knocked a pair of baskets to send Spring Arbor on an 8-0 run, and the Cougars never trailed again.
Zach Mendendorp scored the first seven points of the second half as Spring Arbor extended the margin to 17, 40-23, with 18 ½ minutes to play.
"This is a nice Spring Arbor team," Albion Head Coach Jody May said. "They don't have many weaknesses."
Jaylin Fordham was the other Briton to score in double figures, finishing with 10 points.
Corey Wheeler led Albion's starting unit with eight points and eight rebounds.
Mendendorp scored a game-high 24 for Spring Arbor. Brandon Durnell chipped in with 11 off the bench.
Albion (1-5 overall) will hit the road for its next two non-league games. The Britons have a Wednesday night date at the University of Chicago.
