Providence, R.I.-Junior forward Justin Campbell (New Haven, CT) scored a team-best 15 points and added seven rebounds as the Rhode Island College men's basketball team suffered a 70-62 setback against intra-city rival Johnson & Wales at The Murray Center on Tuesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• RIC sophomore guard Chris Farrington (Fall River, MA) notched 14 points, three rebounds and two assists.

 • Sophomore guard CJ Donaldson (Bridgeport, CT) tallied 12 points, six boards, two assists and two steals, while freshman guard Adham Floyd (Worcester, MA) pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds.

• Junior guard Brian Hogan-Carey (Staten Island, NY) led the way for Johnson & Wales with a game-high 16 points, eight rebounds and four assists.

• Senior forward Jarell Lawson (Providence, RI) notched a double-double with 12 points, 10 rebounds, three assists and four steals in the win for the Wildcats.

• Johnson & Wales took the early, 15-9, lead on a three-pointer from freshman forward Nate Patenude (Smithfield, RI) 

• RIC responded and used an 8-2 run, capped by a layup from Campbell, to knot the score, 17-17, with 9:15 left in the first half.

• The visiting Wildcats then used a 19-3 run to close out the half and took a 36-20 lead heading into the locker room at halftime.

• RIC chipped away at the JWU lead throughout the second half and cut the deficit down to just three points, 45-42, on a pair of free throws from freshman guard AJ Pettway (Worcester, MA) with 12:24 on the clock.

• That would be as close as the Anchormen would get as Johnson & Wales pulled away down the stretch en route to the 70-62 victory.

BY THE NUMBERS

• RIC shot 41.9 percent (26-of-62) from the field, 20.0 percent (3-of-15) from the three-point line and 63.6 percent (7-of-11) from the free throw line.

• Johnson & Wales shot 43.5 percent (27-of-62) from the field, 20.0 percent (2-of-10) from the three-point line and 56.0 percent (14-of-25) from the free throw line.

• RIC outrebounded JWU by a 41-40 margin, but the Anchormen had 23 turnovers in the contest.
