ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Sophomore Cody Green scored a career-high 23 points with five three-point baskets to lead host Nazareth to a 77-74 men's basketball victory over Keuka Saturday in the inaugural Heritage Christian Services Classic.

The Golden Flyers had a 10-point halftime lead and held on in the second half to improve to 2-0 overall, while the Wolves dropped to 1-1. Junior Jake Burgio added 14 points for the Golden Flyers and junior Chris Jones combined 11 points with 10 rebounds. Nazareth is back in action at home Tuesday against Buffalo State in a non-conference game at 7 p.m.

Playing without its two leading scorers from last season -- guards Tyler Stenglein and Brendan Wind -- both out with leg injuries, Nazareth found offense from different sources. In particular Green, who made 9-of-14 shots overall, including 5-of-8 from three-point range.

Green made three shots from long distance in the first half as the Golden Flyers led by as many as 12 points before settling for a 42-32 lead at the break. Keuka, however, proved to be resilient by scoring the first eight points of the second half to close within 42-40 and the game was close the rest of the way.

Green drilled yet another three-pointer with 9:53 left to push Nazareth's lead back to nine, 56-47, but the Wolves stormed back again in slicing Nazareth's lead to one point on three separate occasions. The last time came with 1:38 left on a jumper by Ryder Mansfield. Nazareth answered with a three-point play by Burgio with 1:10 to go, then freshman Isaac Nelson hit a free throw to extend the lead to 75-70 with :37 left.

Mansfield (17 points, 11 rebounds) then hit a three-pointer with :28 left to trim the lead back to 75-73. The Wolves had a couple of chances to tie the score in the closing seconds, but Greg Tyler missed twice in the paint and Nelson grabbed the rebound and made another free throw after drawing a foul. Tyler converted one of two free throws for Keuka with :03 left, but Jones corralled the rebound on the second shot and he made one more free throw to seal the win.

Nazareth shot 29 for 65 (44.6 percent) from the field for the game, including 9-for-19 from three-point range (47.4 percent). Keuka had a 46-31 rebounding advantage. Junior Daniel Jacob and freshman Stephen Gabel each had eight points for Nazareth. Cliff Stevens and Sam Brown each scored 11 points for Keuka and Trevor Powell had 10.

The game was played as a benefit for the Heritage Christian Services Employment Alliance, which provides job development, placement and job coaching on a complimentary basis to eople who have intellectual and/or developmental disabilities.

Marisa Geitner, President and CEO of HCS, and Lisa Formicola, Pittsford Brach Manager for Tompkins Bank of Castile, were the event's honorary co-chairs.
