The Millikin men's basketball team won its third straight game to open the 2017-18 season winning 78-55 over Sarah Lawrence College at the Rocky Mountain Thanksgiving Classic at Colorado College in Colorado Springs, Colorado on November 24.
The game was a back-and-forth contest in the first half with Sarah Lawrence leading 37-35 at halftime. Millikin turned up the defensive pressure to start the second half propelling them on a 28-5 run over the first 10 minutes of the half. Millikin was up 63-42 with 9:27 left in the game.
Millikin shot 48 percent from the field including going 7-11 (64 percent) from three-point range. Millikin won the rebounding battle 44-24 and forced Sarah Lawrence to make 21 turnovers. Sarah Lawrence shot 42 percent from the field in the game. Sarah Lawrence was 7-14 from three-point range in the first half, but after the Big Blue made a defensive adjustment they hit only 1-8 from beyond the arc in the second half.
Millikin had a balanced attack with four players scoring in double figures. Elijah Henry led the way with 19 points and seven rebounds. DaVante Harrell added 16 points and six rebounds. Michael Beaty had 11 points and Tyler Pygon added 10. Pygon had six rebounds. Levi Laws had six points, six assists and five rebounds.
Sarah Lawrence got 13 points each from Malin Segal and Kaleb Robinson.
Millikin is now 3-0 on the season while Sarah Lawrence falls to 0-4.
The Big Blue will play Wisconsin-Platteville on Saturday at 11 a.m. MT in Colorado.
