Tigers Cruise Past West Coast Baptist

LOS ANGELES — All 17 suited players saw the court as the Occidental men's basketball team made easy work of West Coast Baptist with an 89-47 win at Rush Gymnasium on Friday night.

Zach Baines led the Tigers with 22 points on 7 for 8 shooting from the field and seven rebounds. Austin DeWitz was dominant around the basket, scoring 14 points with 14 rebounds, Isaiah De La Fuente finished in double figures with 10 points on 3 for 3 shooting and 4 of 5 at the free throw line, and Caleb Yellin-Flaherty chipped in in seven points, nine rebounds and four assists.

Oxy's bench came up huge with 33 points, led by Ian Bonde, who scored seven points, including five in the first half with the game not completely out of reach. Jonny Croswaite added six points, Jacob Adler had five and Jeevin Sandhu had four points and eight rebounds. 

First year Taso Warsa sent Oxy's bench into cheers when he made a corner 3-pointer in the last minute of the game for his first career basket. 

West Coast Baptist's best effort came from Seth Hanna, who scored 22 points.

Ryan Kaneshiro set the tone early, playing excellent on-ball defense on West Coast Baptist's best player Daniel Foster, who's had some games in the 20s and 30s in exhibition games against NCAA Division I schools.  

Oxy shot 51 percent from the field and limited West Coast Baptist to just 25 percent.

Season Impact: The Tigers improve to 2-0 on the season.

Next Game: Oxy is back in action against Cal Miramar on Monday at 7 p.m.
