St. Louis, Mo., Feb. 12, 2017 – The No. 5-ranked Washington University in St. Louis men's basketball team shot a season-low 34.8 percent from the field and had its 15-game conference winning streak with a 74-61 loss to No. 4 University of Rochester Sunday at the WU Field House in St. Louis.

Rochester improved its overall record to 20-2, 9-2 in the University Athletic Association (UAA), while WashU fell to 18-4, 10-1 in the UAA. The Bears hold a one-game lead over Rochester with three games remaining.

Junior Jake Knupp tied a season-high with 17 points on 5-of-9 shooting from three-point range, while junior Andrew Sanders (11 points) and senior Michael Bregman (10 points) also scored in double figures.

WashU started slow hitting just 1-of-10 from the field, and fell behind 8-2 in the opening 5:20. Knupp canned a three to end a drought of 6:47 to trim the lead to three.

The Bears took their first lead with 7:33 to play before half after Knupp's second three-pointer. That would be the largest lead of the half for WashU as Rochester ended the half on an 8-0 run to lead 31-22.

WashU shot 25 percent (8-32) from the field and hit just 2-of-10 from three-point range. The Yellowjackets hit four three-pointers in the first half and outrebounded WashU 23-18. Ryan Clamage and Mack Montague had eight points for UR.

Rochester scored nine of the first 13 points of the second half to build a 40-26 advantage. The Bears cut the lead down to six (45-39) after a lay-up by Sanders with 10:25 to play.

Trailing by 12 (64-52), WashU went on a 7-0 run highlighted by a three-pointer by Knupp to get the lead down to five with 2:28 to play. That would be as close as WashU would get as Rochester outscored the Bears 10-2 to end the game.

Montague led all scorers with 20 points on four three-pointers, while Zack Ayers (13), Clamage (13) and Andrew Lundstrom (10) scored in double figures. Rochester outrebounded WashU 46-39, and had a 13-6 advantage in points off turnovers.

WashU plays its final two road games at New York on Friday, Feb. 17, at 9 p.m. (ET) and at Brandeis on Sunday, Feb. 19, at Noon (ET). The game against New York will be played at Pace University in Pleasantville, N.Y.
