Seff Drops 31 Points, As Vassar Men Fall To Skidmore

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (February 4, 2017) — Alex Seffpoured in 31 points, as the Vassar College men's basketball team (5-16, 1-11 Liberty) fell to Skidmore College (15-6, 10-2 Liberty) on Senior Day at the Athletics & Fitness Center on Saturday, 97-73. 

The last time Seff scored as many points was when he notched a career-high 34 in Vassar's season-opening win against New Paltz. This time around, Seff shot 57 percent from the floor with a pair of triples, three rebounds and three steals. 

Tony Caletti tallied 11 points and Jesse Browne added 10 to round out Vassar's top scorers. 

The Brewers shot 39 percent from the floor and 23 percent (6-of-26) from three, while their visitors shot 52 and 42 percent (8-of-19), respectively.

Edvinas Rupkus dropped 24 points and 11 rebounds and Jack Morrow added 18 points, while Aldin Medunjanin and Chase Ta each finished with 15. 

Skidmore opened with a 6-2 run before Vassar scored six straight points to take an 8-6 advantage. Mickey Adams capped the burst with back-to-back layups. 

Over roughly the next seven minutes, neither side led by more than two points with the Brewers holding an edge the majority of the time. Hunter Gettings hit a three-pointer and a layup to give Vassar its final lead of the competition, 22-20, before Skidmore began to pull away.

The game saw 10 ties and six lead changes in the early goings, but the Thoroughbreds ripped off 12 straight points toward the end of the half before taking a 48-35 lead into the break. 

Skidmore sustained its double-digit lead throughout the second half. Seff scored the first two field goals for Vassar to start the new period before he and Caletti broke up a 15-5 run with a triple in transition and a jumper, respectively.

Seff continued to knock down shots, scoring 14 of the following 17 points for Vassar.

Prior to the game, seniors Adams, Ryan Huegel and Elijah Winston were honored.  

The Brewers hit the road for a trifecta of games, playing at St. Lawrence University (Friday, Feb. 10 @ 8 p.m.), Clarkson University (Saturday, Feb. 11 @ 4 p.m.) and Bard College (Wednesday, Feb. 15 at 8 p.m.).
