WASHINGTON - The Gallaudet University men's basketball team was unable to continue its five-game win streak here Saturday as the Bison lost 82-77 to Gwynedd Mercy University in a non-conference game in the Field House.

The Bison (6-3) and the Griffins (6-2) battled fiercely throughout the entire game but with 4:30 left in the second half, a Griffins 3-pointer by Rip Engel (nine points) gave Gwynedd Mercy its largest lead of the game, 68-76.

GU refused to go quietly as it put together an 8-2 run in the final minutes of the game to pull within two, 78-76 with 56 seconds left in regulation. The Bison defense tried to stop the Griffins one last time but fell short. Griffin forward Cedric Elleby (20 points) knocked down a jump shot with 34 seconds on the clock to put the visitors up four, 80-76. Time ran out on the Bison in the end as they lost by five.
